The latest electoral processes in the West are increasingly taking place on the Internet. Everyone remembers the online electoral battle promoted by the Obama team or the online resources mobilised by the Spanish political parties in the last elections. Now it is the turn of the German elections and voters are making their decisions with the help of the Internet.
According to a study by the Bitkom media amazon data association, 77% of German voters under the age of 21 are getting their information online. For the entire population, the percentage drops to 55%.
Traditional media outlets are trying to harness the potential of the internet for their coverage of election campaigns. "If we want to reach more viewers, we have to do more than just communicate via television," says Eckart Gaddum, editor-in-chief of new media at ZDF.
Traditional media are therefore developing their online presence, producing online specials and working with social media platforms. These have also developed a whole range of content and services for those interested in politics. The concept of the Wahl.de platform is interesting , as it includes sections dedicated to each of the major political parties and analyses how information and communication about the parties and the electoral process is developing on the internet.
