When Michael Aldrich connected a TV, a computer and a telephone to sell products, he never imagined that his attempt would be the beginning of the evolution of one of the fastest-growing industries in recent years: online commerce.
Today, online shopping is worth around US$70 billion annually in Latin America alone, and globally, sales volume is expected to be five times higher in 2020 in the main markets. A record!

On the occasion of Internet Day, Trustly has created an infographic that describes the main milestones that contributed to the growth and consolidation of online commerce.

It was about 40 years ago that online commerce began, but today, it continues to grow with new technologies, innovations and thousands of companies entering the online market every year.
The convenience, security and user experience of online commerce has improved exponentially since its inception in the 1970s until today.
In the 1990s it was already clear that B2B online shopping would be commercially lucrative, but B2C would not be successful until the subsequent widespread use of the PC and the Internet.
Also, with the birth of Amazon and eBay, electronic commerce was founded.
