Reviewing Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans
Alex Sidorov | 06/15/2020
The best disaster recovery and business continuity ( DR / BC ) plans cover both IT and business. Unfortunately, many of them focus on IT and ignore business operations, writes Mary Shacklett, president of consulting firm Transworld Data , on InformationWeek .
When a major disaster strikes, whether it’s a hurricane, earthquake, war, or pandemic, organizations remember their DR/BC plans. Worse, if a disaster actually occurs, they have to start denmark whatsapp data those plans.
DR/BC organizations expect two things:
they never want to carry out these plans in real life because it would mean their business is disrupted;
They want assurances that these plans are comprehensive and workable.
Few people achieve both goals at once. This is normal, because in reality, no one ever wants to do DR/BC.
However, many companies are concerned that their DR/BC is not up-to-date and comprehensive.
In 2015, more than half of companies with 300 or fewer employees believed a DR plan was unnecessary, three-quarters had no insurance to cover BC, and only 37% believed a DR plan was essential. Three years later, in 2018, 75% of small companies did not have a DR plan. Larger companies are better prepared, but even for them, trying to keep their DR plans current as their business and operating conditions change can be a battle.
