In July, the company "Shlakservis", which is part of MMK, completed a large-scale environmental project - the construction of a section for waterless cooling of blast furnace slag. It is planned that the new technology will completely eliminate the release of hydrogen sulfide, as well as halve dust .

SIBUR
The petrochemical company SIBUR is implementing projects to process polymer waste, reduce korea phone number greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and switch to the use of renewable energy sources. In 2021, the production of plastic products from recycled materials was launched, which made it possible to significantly reduce the volume of waste and reduce the environmental burden. In 2022, SIBUR increased the volume of "green" electricity sixfold, reduced pollutant emissions by 9% compared to the base year of 2018, and also reduced GHG emissions in the Petrochemicals segment by 5%, and by 20% in the Gas Processing segment.

Norilsk Nickel invests heavily in environmental projects aimed at reducing emissions and improving air quality in the regions where it operates.

In 2020, Norilsk Nickel launched a large-scale project to reclaim land and restore ecosystems in the Norilsk area. In 2023, the Sulphur Program was launched at the Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant (NMZ), aimed at radically reducing sulfur dioxide emissions in Norilsk. Greenhouse gas emissions last year decreased from 9.9 to 9.7 million tons (in CO2 equivalent), and emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere - from 1.82 to 1.71 million tons. The share of electricity generated from renewable sources was 55%. Norilsk Nickel has maintained one of the lowest carbon footprints of nickel in the global metallurgical industry.

INC
"Our company is implementing the ESG agenda structurally through an integrated management system that defines strategic goals and objectives. By the way, we started working on this topic a long time ago, and not at the request of the regulator, but because we have not seen and do not see any other way for ourselves."

Irkutsk Oil Company also tries to minimize its impact on the environment. For example, the Irkutsk Polymer Plant has a closed water cycle and a closed flare. INK supports social initiatives of residents of the Ust-Kutsky District with grant competitions and implements methods aimed at improving industrial safety. Thanks to risk-oriented approaches in planning and building production processes, over the past six years, the frequency rate of injuries with temporary loss of working capacity has decreased by 10 times.

It follows from all this that representatives of different industry segments pay a lot of attention to sustainable development. In achieving the goals of the ESG agenda, they are helped by modern information technologies, such as AI, ML, CV, including the use of Building Information Modeling technology. BIM technology is a key innovation that allows companies not only to increase the level of project management efficiency, but also to make their production more environmentally friendly and less safe.

BIM technology and sustainability programs in industry
First of all, BIM technology allows creating digital prototypes of industrial buildings and adjacent infrastructure, which helps to make informed and optimized decisions throughout the entire life cycle of an industrial facility.

3. BIM technology and sustainability programs in industry

Using digital models, it is possible to evaluate energy consumption of a future or reconstructed facility at the design stage, compare different solutions and choose the appropriate option. For example, a comprehensive analysis of the energy efficiency of buildings makes it possible to see possible heat losses, find the optimal solution and minimize energy costs in future production, thereby reducing the potential level of environmental pollution.

BIM technologies create a single digital information space where all participants in the construction and investment process (customer, designer, builder, contractors, suppliers, operating organizations) are involved in a coordinated process and work with up-to-date information. Thanks to this, many collisions and intersections (not only geometric, but also technological, as well as spatial and temporal) of different disciplines and departments are detected at an early stage. This helps to reduce the number of defects and rework at subsequent stages, optimize logistics and work schedules, and minimize deviations from the planned deadlines for the implementation of the facility. As a result, companies manage to reduce the volume of construction waste, better adapt to changing circumstances, including predicting and managing occupational safety risks.

The ability to model floods, analyse watersheds, manage rainfall, and use GIS environmental data for contextual modeling also plays an important role in building the resilient infrastructure needed to achieve many of the Sustainable Development Goals.

How Russia Supports Sustainable Development
Compliance with ESG principles in Russia is supported at the state level. For example, the Decree "On National Development Goals" until 2030-36 is based on them. Also, since 2021, a program of preferential financing of "green" projects and initiatives in the field of sustainable development has been in effect . The proposal to introduce tax incentives for climate projects, including the abolition of VAT on income from the sale of works and services, as well as from the sale of carbon units, was adopted by the State Duma in February, but only in the first reading. Nevertheless, in a global sense, there is no general legislative foundation for regulating and supporting companies following the ESG agenda.

Experts and market participants regularly discuss the need for government support. Andrey Sharonov, head of the National ESG Alliance, believes that it would be effective to organize subsidies for loans that companies take for purposes related to the ESG agenda and regulate access to participation in government procurement.
