In general, it is always good to know the theory behind certain processes and to be open to new approaches from science. But being a theorist can also lead to thinking too long and developing unrealistic solutions. In practice, theorists are usually characterized by the following sentences:

The expert from the ivory tower

The term goes back to the writer Charles-Augustin Sainte-Beuve (1837), who at that time described Alfred de Vigny (a very famous writer from the French Romantic period) as unworldly and dedicated a poem to him.
