In July 2018, a video showing women and children being blindfolded and shot by men in military uniform began circulating on social media. Amnesty International blamed Cameroonian soldiers for the killings in the country. The Cameroonian government initially dismissed the reports as “fake news” and insisting that the soldiers were not Cameroonian.

The investigation showed that the military uniforms worn by the soldiers in the video were indeed those of certain divisions of the Cameroonian army.
