Unfinished higher education and the creation of Microsoft
Gates graduated from high school in 1973 and entered Harvard University, one of the most prestigious educational institutions in the world. Here he studied mathematics and computer science. While studying at Harvard, Bill met his school friend Paul Allen again.

In January 1975, Popular Electronics magazine published an article about the new Altair 8800 microcomputer from MITS. Bill and Paul saw the potential for developing software for this device and contacted the manufacturer, MITS (Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems). They offered to develop a BASIC interpreter for the Altair.

It is noteworthy that Bill and Paul only had documentation from the Altair 8800 microcomputer, but did not have the processor itself. Then Allen wrote a program that imitated the work of the Altair 8800. The language interpreter was tested on it.
