The bogeyman called GDPR

Post by surovy113 »

There is hardly anyone who has not heard of the new European legislation called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which aims to protect the rights of European Union citizens regarding the handling of their personal data.

And those who have not yet had the honor of encountering the new regulation should study the issue carefully. The GDPR will enter into force on May 25, 2018 (although it was adopted at the European level in April 2016) and will apply to all entities that collect and process personal data about their customers and users (from e-shops to users of information and CRM systems that are so common and widespread today). The rules should be based on the so-called General Regulation and should be uniform for the entire EU. Companies and organizations will face considerable fines for violations.

In our country, the GDPR will actually replace the Personal Data Protection Act. In this case, the main regulator should remain the Office for Personal Data Protection (ÚOOU), which will be subject to a certain extent to the European Data Protection Board (EDPB).

Personal data is not the same as personal information.

So which data will be subject to the new regulation? It will be general and so-called sensitive personal data about natural persons . It will be name, gender, personal status, age, date of birth, photo and IP address. For natural persons doing business, it will be e-mail address, telephone number and identification data assigned by the state. Special attention will be paid to sensitive data (racial and ethnic origin, sexual orientation, health status, etc.).

What data will you need to “protect”?

employee data
customer and partner data
data from corporate and marketing databases in which you collect data about car owner database individuals and business entities (customers, potential customers)...
What about corporate and marketing databases?
