We surveyed nearly 300 swim teachers across the UK and Ireland to uncover what really matters to them when choosing a swim school and what keeps them happy and motivated.
Here are our 5 takeaways from our What uae rcs data Teachers Want – Swim Edition survey, that’ll help swim schools improve their staff retention and attract new swim talent, by providing flexibility, improving scheduling, and letting them focus on what matters most – teaching.
1. Make them feel valued
Almost half of swim teachers (47%) teach because they genuinely love swimming. While their passion is a large part of why they do what they do, it doesn’t mean you should take it for granted. Keeping your teachers feeling valued for their dedication is crucial, and here’s how to do it:
Promote from within: Make sure your existing teachers are the first to know about new hours, classes, or locations before advertising externally. Upskilling your current staff shows loyalty, boosts retention, and saves you time and money
Invest in ongoing training and development: Offer workshops, conferences, mentorships, and training programmes to help your teachers grow. The more they feel they’re learning, the happier they’ll be
Celebrate success: Recognise and reward achievements through performance reviews, award nominations, or even just a shout-out now and then can make a big difference. Let them know their hard work isn’t going unnoticed.
