Hobby as a business

Joe Maddalena was born into a family of interior designers service email list antique dealers in Rhode Island. Like his parents, he turned his hobby, also related to collecting, into a business.

By the age of 14, he had 100,000 comic book issues, more than a million baseball cards, thousands of autographs from famous people (and even more from those whose autographs the far-sighted Joe took in case they became popular in the future), and even paintings.

Joe later sold all these riches and used the proceeds to open an auction called Profiles in History, which sold personal correspondence of Hollywood stars and prestigious historical documents.

One of the lots was the last memo signed by John F. Kennedy, as well as a letter from Abraham Lincoln, in which he vehemently argues to his political opponents that the Emancipation Proclamation should be issued. According to experts, the value of the latter document is at least $5 million.

Today, Joe's fortune, which has grown from a hobby into a business, is about 2-3 million dollars.

School of Correct Running

I Love Running co-founders Vladimir Pasekunov and Irina Moskovkina got involved in running thanks to Maxim Zhurilo, who by the fall of 2012 had already completed marathons in New York, Boston and Berlin.

When they began training together for the Amsterdam Marathon, all three decided that there was no running culture in the Russian capital. At the same time, the number of fans of this sport is constantly growing. Lack of knowledge leads to injuries and kills all love for running in a beginner runner.

The enthusiasts weighed all the pros and cons and decided to create the School of Correct Running. Each owns 35% of the company. The initial investments went into branding, advertising materials, presentation and branded T-shirts. Today, all investments are taken from working capital. For a start-up company, this is a great result.

The training program is led by a professional trainer. It lasts seven weeks. The cost of participation is 12,500 rubles.

The school's performance is very high: the number of people who have completed training and run their first marathons in Moscow, Vienna, Belluno, Barcelona, Riga, Prague, Nice, Luxembourg, London, Dublin, Tallinn, Lisbon, St. Petersburg, Berlin and Amsterdam is over 500.

In the future, the company plans to develop the running culture in the regions. First, a branch was opened in St. Petersburg, and since the beginning of 2014, I Love Running has begun offering a franchise. If you are thinking about how to turn your hobby into a business, and you love running, perhaps this is your chance.
